I have a
[h=1]48" 4x65W Coralife FRESHWATER Aqualight, which requires 4x 6,700K Lamps[/h]they are 65W STRAIGHT 4 PIN, Power Compact Lamps
and I am wanting to get into and start growing FW plants. I got it used when I bought my tank offline and it came with no bulbs. My Q is should I purchased these bulbs or is their a newer, better, cheaper lighting source out today? Also, what are the best and cheapest lights I should look for?

you'd have to do the research and determine which route to go.

keep in mind that the ballasts may also have gone bad.

there are a few places you can go to get affordable t-5 ho

I've gotten fixtures from catalina aquarium and also fishneedit.

Those power compact lamps are getting harder to find. I seriously doubt you'll find any 65 watt lamps. 55 watt is more common and those are getting rare. Rare as in expensive.
Presuming the ballast(s) are good you can, if you need to, use any wattage from 22 watts to 65.

http://www.atlantalightbulbs.com still sells some in 3500K and 4100K
ttp://www.1000bulbs.com/category/6500k-55-w-2g11-base-cfl-compact-fluorescents/
lists lamps at $6.50 each
This is new in the last year or so for them.

I went the DIY LED route rather then pay the nearly $20 each GE9025s were going to cost me.
I use twenty four 3 watt white and warm white LED emitters on my 75g tank. Plant growth is great.
for $7.93 each.
