I'm thinking of setting up a nano reef. Maybe 12g long or smaller. Would I be able to keep any fish in it? This would also be my first SW tank. I was looking at this nano tank maybe 5g it already has the filter and light they did have one on display with corals so it could work. How do I setup one? What tips do you have for me?

i would check out nanoreef.com for advice. i have a 3 gallon pico and a 28 gallon nano cube mixed reef. a 12 gallon would be good for one or two small fish, maybe a clownfish and a goby. best advice for you is patience, it takes more time than freshwater.

Wouldn't put a clown in a 12g, I'd stock it something like pistol/goby pair, then 2 more fish max along the lines of a firefish, clown goby, possum or pygmy wrasse, possibly a smaller cardinal species. Then you could also have a few other inverts, hermits, maybe a regular crab species, snails. peppermint shrimp.

My best suggestion would be to go bigger it'll be easier to maintain the correct paramaters for someone new to SW, its Nov, Petco is likely to be doing the $1 sale again in Jan.

Try to start out with a 20gal or more. A 29 gal would be even better.
