Found two dead fish today and looked like worms were coming out of them. Grossed me out!!!! uploadfromtaptalk1354587713539.jpguploadfromtaptalk1354587734502.jpg

They were white/pink/red. Spade shaped head (or tail I guess) and only a few centimeters long.

How bad is this?

55g, just did about 1/2 wc yesterday (usually weekly, sometimes every two weeks), inhabitants are blue tetras, emerald cories, flame tetras, pineapple swordtail, pristella tetras, Nerite snails, RCS, many plants.

Nothing has been added in a couple months.

Those worms are seen as very thin, thread-like red worms coming out of the bum. I've never seen them free swimming. I would think those are planaria from sub-par cleaning and over feeding than being C worms.
A dewormer will get rid of them either way.

When you've dealt with both, you can tell the difference.

Yea they are the second one. I'm usually pretty good about cleaning but in the last couple months I have had to go out of town unexpectedly and went two weeks between wc both times. Are dewormers safe for snails and shrimp?

I've used dewormer successfully in a shrimp tank. I'm not going to lie and say they "enjoyed" it, but they lived through it. Snails seemed to like it even less, but didn't notice a die off. Knocked out my worm problem though.
