Hello all,
When I returned home from a 3 day mini vacation I discovered one of my fancy goldfish had a Big chunk of flesh missing from its body. At first I thought she was dead but after nudging her a little bit I could see that she was still just barely alive.
-I filled my 5 gallon bucket with water, treated it with stress coat, added aquarium salt, and placed my injured fish in the bucket. As I type this she is still barely alive, floating at the top of the bucket and very slowly moving her gills once in a while.

-I am trying to figure out what happened to her? She shares the tank with 4 other fancy goldfish, my girlfriend and I have observed the other fish following/chasing her around the tank in the past which lead us to believe that she was maybe a female??
-Could this injury have been caused by anything other than another fish biting her?

-We think that one of the fish is the most aggressive and therefore the most likely culprit. We also saw him nipping at some of the other fish after we removed the injured one from the tank.
-Not wanting the horrible episode to repeat itself, I've put the suspected fish in its own bucket.. I hope that I'm not unjustly punishing him? :/

Any and all advice and thoughts you guys have on this situation would be grrrreatttly appreciated!!

-Brian (I'm going to try and post pictures of the injury below) (and under Attatchments)

Poor thing, that looks pretty severe. Hard to say what happened originally. I don't think goldfish have teeth but any wounded fish can be picked and nibbled on. Separating them was wise. The open wound will be vulnerable to bacterial infection, so you may want to medicate with an anti-bacterial/antibiotic. Hope everything turns out.
