I just opened and assembled the LED hood that came with my Petsmart Top Fin 29 gal kit. Ugh.. I dunno. It's about as substantial as a soda bottle.

The strand of 7 LED pods snaps into pockets on the underside of the hood and the kit comes with a plug in power adapter with an on/off rocker switch.

It is blindingly bright when I fired it up though..

Yeah try to find the wattage if you can. As far as flimsiness Top Fin isn't exactly high quality, there glass aquariums are good enough quality but I don't much care for most of their other products. Looks like they really limit you on the size of a filter you can stick on the tank too with that cover.

True dat!

I knew going into it that it wasn't going to be high-end stuff at ~$100 for all. It gives me a starting point. Least expensive for piecing together those components would be more like $150ish

IMO, after stopping at Petco today, their low end and kit stuff looked better than Petsmart's :irked:

The only wattage rating I see on the whole rig is on the box for the power supply. Along with the 120/240V, a fraction of an Amp, it says 6 Watts. Dunno if my math is anywhere near correct, but if it was 6 watts total, each of the 21 LEDs would be less than 1/3 of a watt (0.28).

Sounds about right the lower end marineland led's are like 0.3 each as well. Fine for keeping fish but you'll have trouble with live plants.
