Catfish just died.

Just fished my beautiful 24in catfish out of my pond. Noticed a growth from both gills joining on the belly. Would any one have an idea what it is. Would it be contagious and if it is what would be the cure for what ever it is. Here are a couple pictures. I`m just shattered.


Having picture problems.

The groth is around the the outside of the gill plate?? Looks like to me a fleshy groth soft and gushy. Peals away from the gill plate well sorta slides.

Hope this gives enough info. Trash gets picked up in a/m. Sure hope you have a good idea of what this is. Sure appreciate your help.
