I can't decide which to do in my African biotope. I will have manzanita driftwood, leaves scattered on the sand, and light colored river rocks. I want dark tannin stained water so I don't know if a dark background plus a dark substrate would just make it look too dark or what? I do like the darker substrate though. Which do y'all think with this setup?

If you scatter enough leaves it won't matter!

If im not mistaken, manzanita is an american hardwood. Maybe mopani wood would be better. Im pretty sure its african and it give off alot of tannin

And subrosa I guess that is true. But I haven't decided how I want the leaves yet.

I agree. Mopani is ugly. I just thought since you were doing african biotope that it would be worth suggesting :)

manzanita will give off a good bit of tannins too. I also like the way it looks better... As for substrate...I tend to like a dark background and a light substrate. But honestly, it is just a matter of opinion.

Yea. I like my dark on dark better but I want to make sure I can see in the tank so I think I'll do pool filter sand.
