I was at my LFS yesterday and came across some rams listed as bolivians. However the owner said he wasn't sure. He also had some germans I may go back for. Sorry for the glare and crappy cell phone pics. Neither was being cooperative for photos. Thanks.20130804_120859_zps1f8fa474.jpg

I'm not entirely certain it is a Bolivian ram. I can see how the vertical stripe through the eye can make that seem the obvious choice, but the dark horizontal stripes don't seem right for a Bolivian, in my experience.

Well it's certainly not a blue ram. Look like a bolivian to me...some fish, Discus and female bettas for example, get stress bars when uncomfortable. I believe bolivians will too but I've never seen it happen myself.

Maybe that's what it is, then. I just don't recall seeing horizontal black bars on a ram.

Could have been stress. They were just put in the tank and seemed a bit nervous. They stayed hidden in a cave all day. Today the bars are still on both but they are more relaxed and coming out of the caves to eat and swim around a bit. Seem outwardly healthy and doing well.

Id say its a bolivian but, as others stated, ive never witnessed or heard of a bolivian with those horizontal stripes. Maybe stress or possible hybrid?
