My male Honey Gourami recently made a flimsy bubble nest in my community tank (I have a separate post for that), and I've observed him chasing the female around and exhibiting other typical behavior.
However, whilst guarding the nest, he suddenly shot to the surface and sprayed a stream of water droplets a couple inches into the air at the water's surface! And I thought I'd gotten a gourami, not an archer fish! Is there an explanation for this strange behavior?

Dwarf gouramis will do the same thing...I think it's just part of the repertoire of several of the dwarf gourami species as well as an example of convergent evolution.

Hmm, I never knew gouramis could shoot water. I've had them in the padt and I don't think I have ever seen this done. Interesting.
