This is my first planted tank. Low tech set up. Let me know what you think. :D

Filtration: AC30 with prefilter sponge

CO2: None

Lighting: Single T8 plant bulb(on for 10-11 hours)

Substrate: Seachem Florite

Stock: 2 giant danios to finish cycle. Will remove and stock with rcs soon.

Plants: Java moss, Java fern(standard and windelov), Anubias, dwarf hairgrass(purchased on accident, I know it will die without high light/co2), 1 random plant that came hidden within the Java moss.

Here's 2 pics of the mystery plant. It has roots similar to anubias.

How many watts is the T8? You may be pushing the bottom limit for light levels.

The mystery plants are pretty tough to tell at that size.

It's only 38w but my plants are pretty much all low light (except for the dwarf hairgrass but as started above I bought it on accident and know it will must likely die)

i have done lots of low light/DIY tanks, if it were me i would spend the 15 bucks to convert your hood to CFLs, go to menards or lowes and get a 2 bulb fixture, and then add 2 6500k or 1 6700K and 1 2700K CFLs in the hood, you will get way more light, and then your hair grass will grow more, also the java fern and moss will explode. The only plant you have that never seemed to do great under med or high light was the anubias. you could also benefit from adding DIY co2, i ran this on almost all of my planted tanks, it worked out great.

the first pic does have T-5 HOs, but they were on the tank only 3 days before i took this pic, before they had 4 CFLs, the next pic is of a 29 gallon with 4 CFLs 3 6500K and 1 2700K. both with 4L of DIY CO2.
