Hi, over the past week i have noticed a lump on my betta under his chin near his jaw? It's the same color as him and seems to be growing. Could this be a tumour? He's eating ok but not as lively as normal. He's 7 month old.
He's in a 16gallon ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5.
Any help on this would be appreciated thank you.
Sorry my pics aren't good.uploadfromtaptalk1383206194500.jpguploadfromtaptalk1383206228554.jpg

It could be an internal parasite. TBH, since he's eating and active, I'd keep an eye on it and not fret much. You could try picking up a medicated food specific to parasites and see if that helps. If it's a tumour there's not much you can do, and if it's a parasite, manual removal will be tricky.

Thanks for your help, it looks like it's a part of him. I'll get a hold of medicated food for him and give it a go. He's also gone really pale on his head. I'll definitely keep a close eye on him.

From my experience, this does look like a tumor. The only thing I've been able to do is just make sure my water parameters are the best they can be and I've done fish baths with Usnea. It has anti-vial properties and it's natural so, it not as harsh.
Here is some information on Usnea for fish use:
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumMedication4.html#usnea
http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2007/01/usnea-using-usnic-acid-as-fish-remedy.html

Something I've seen for preventing this issue (expectantly for bettas) is proper mineralization in the water. Hope the links help.

Thank you for your help trigger i will read those links straight away. I have noticed today that it has gotten bigger and his color is drained. The first thing i thought was tumour, I've only had him for 2-3 months. Poor guy :(

Things aren't looking good today, his tumour is twice the size and he's lying about more on his side. :(
