I got a fluval chi 6 gallon for christmas, and it is going to be a shrimp tank. Do I need to cycle the tank? Also, is there a heater included in the kit? I cant find it so I thought it might be hidden in the filter. one last question, it is open top, so could I have an oto? I will probably cut some acrylic to cover most of the tank eventually to limit evaporation.

Do you have some healthy, established bio media, gravel or hardscape to use in this tank? That's been an instant cycle for me any time I've gone that route.

I have a liquid additive to cycle but I hear those dont work. I will have to check my lfs to see if they will let me use some.

Ok, thanks. I was hoping to set this one up pretty quickly as I am going to have to wait awhile for my 26 to cycle... Now to find a tiny heater to hide behind some rocks...
