My brother has bought a 300L tank and we are just setting it up. Bit different to our first smaller tanks and we just wanna check. It's got a trickle filter (we think) and he has been supplied a bag of ceramic bio rings, some bio balls and a bag if high grade activated carbon. 1st question: where does all this go? In the trickle filter? And 2nd, how long will a fish less cycle take?

Set the carbon off to the side. Only use carbon when you're trying to remove medications. The bio balls and ceramic rings go in the trickle (wet/dry) filter.

Fish-less cycle will take a few weeks. other than that, I agree: take carbon out and take pics for further advice specific to your filter. Even if you don't have the bio rings in the tank you could add ammonia right now to at least get some bacteria growing.
