Color temp isn't everything, but most go with 6500K for freshwater plants. Given it's a 54watt, I assume these are 48" lamps?
IMO, any of the name-brand lamps are great. I even like my inexpensive Odyssea T5HO's that you can mail-order inexpensively.

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/t5-giesemann-midday.html I like Giesemann's, as far as additional bulbs depends on the type of look you like, I don't like running sub 8000k bulbs too yellowish for me so I run 10-14000k.. 1000k is pretty white going higher will add a bluish tinge.
I use Phillips 80W/865 T5HO bulbs which are more pleasing to me over my tank than the Giesemann midday bulbs which have a more yellow tone to them. In the past I mixed Midday with 10000K to try to avoid the yellow. They should make the Phillips in 54w and I think they are more affordable than aquarium specific bulbs, should be easier to find not to many places carry 80w.
