I have a canister filter that has been sitting in my house collecting dust forever. Its brand new, never used. The only issue is, my buddy got it for me from Australia so the requirements it needs is not how it is here in the states, plus the plug is wrong. Because it requires a higher voltage, I was wondering is this just because the wire set up? If so can I just rewire it? Or if its because of the pump can I just buy a replacement? The filter is exactly the same as a Eheim so I would just buy one of there pumps I am assuming. Any help I appreciate.

You could probably get a converter that will allow it to use power from the socket, but I am not sure if they sell those. If you know someone who is good with electronics they might be able to re-wire it for you with a converter that changes the voltage and Hz. Not sure how much all of that would cost though.

It's 240 volts but 50 Hz too. Forget about trying to use it here.

That is only a plug converter. It will work for devices that can work on both 50/60Hz and 120-240V (many wall wart type adapters for low voltage applications are like this). It will not work on something that will only work on 50Hz and 240V.

That motor is probably useless here. Way to tell is to look on the electrical tag on the unit and see if it says 120/240V 50/60Hz anywhere. If it does then you just need the plug adapter. If it doesn't then your out of luck.

Ignore the first one then. The second one I posted would work.
