Which canister filter to get? SUNSUN HW-302 or Fluval 306?

I need to update my filter in my 40 gal freshwater aquarium. I was thinking about getting a SUNSUN off ebay for arou $60 with media or a Fluval 306 for around $130 shipped.....

not familiar at all with the canister filter systems, and this is my first post on the this forum....

any input would be greatly appreciated...

I have both of these filters. Since this will be your first canister, I must recommend the Fluval. It's well built with detailed instructions; you can't go wrong. The Sun Sun is a good filter but it's cheaply made in comparison.

I've added the foam inserts and rinse them every other month. No problems.

If your budget is up to ~$130, I'd consider an Eheim 2217.

Minimal budget, go for the Sunsun 302. I've got one one on my 55g. Had it about a year now.

EDIT- Oops. I see you got the fluval. Can't go wrong either way.

I would never spend the money for a Fluval. The Sunsun is made good enough. Foam pads in the bottom and CHEAP lava rock in the rest of the baskets. Works like a champ!
