Hi,

I need some help in deciding what ferts I put for my around 2 week old planted tank. .

Tank size:

48 x 24 x 21 inches
120 x 60 x 55 cm
~100g

Plants:

Rottala roundifolia
Rottala valichi
Rattala najenshan
Long hair grass
Artherna
Dwarf hair grass for carpet
Monte carlo on some parts
Cuba on some parts
Hygrowfelia
Leppard lili

Plants are growing well except najenshan and cuba.. I see some runners coming from dwarf hair grass.. I have brown and green algae issue..

Substrate:

Quartz innert clay with penac c penac w bacter 100 etc
ADA amazonia on top

Lights and co2:

GE StarCoat T5HO 4 X 54W (~7 inches from water level) (7 hrs lights on)
pressurised CO2
(Nice pearling till bottom grass, or is it from algae I am not sure but good pearling till bottom)

Parameters from API master kit:

6.2 to 6.4 ph
Almost 0 to 0.5 ammonia (Tetra SafeStart plus)
0 nitrite
80 to 160 nitrate

Currently I am adding macro and micro as given by my well knowledged lfs friend. . I have some brown and green algae issue. .

I want to go with something more standard and proven by your experience. .

I went through EI and psp-pro mechanisms. .

Both these almost suggest plantex CSM+B and macro. . And on some locations I see members suggesting seachem flourish is better. .

That is what I want to understand from you. .

Csm+b or flourish ? And which macro solution? I have dry powders of KNO3, KH2PO4 and K2SO4 if you suggest diy macro, I can make it.... Don't have MgSO4.. and what is your dosing regime. .

I understand this information is on many sites now. . But I want to know what is giving you good results. .

Can you please help me in this. .

This is a high-tech system, so daily nutrient dosing is expected. Prepared fertilizers like the Seachem Flourish line get very expensive (these work best in low-tech systems such as mine, where once a week with Comprehensive and maybe Trace is all that is needed) so most suggest mixing your own dry. I have no experience so will leave the method to those who have to explain. But you will need to get adding nutrients, or your high light and CO2 will be overdoing things, and algae will become rampant. Whether it is low-tech or high-tech, there has to be a balance between light intensity, duration and nutrient availability.

Byron.

As stated above, Seachem gets expensive. You should go dry ferts and use this calculator to determine how much to dose and how often.

http://calc.petalphile.com/

thanks tumbz and mgamer..

i will be going for CSM+B

nice calculator that tumbz..

please help me little more..

on that calculator:

on above what i understand is:

1. i will select 100 G as my tank size (my tank is 100 G)

2. i will select DIY

3. i will select Plantex CSM+B

4. a solution

5. and my bottle and dose cup parameters

query is, what should i select for "I am calculating for"

EI ? or PPS?

what works for you?

and second, CSM+B will be for the micro i believe.. for macro, what do i select from below?

ScreenHunter_07 May. 24 16.40.jpg

do i select KNO3, MGSO4, KH2PO4 and K2SO4 and find their dosage?

else what all do i select and add from that list?

i think now i am almost there.. just some more clarification will help me to correctly understand what is to be done..

please tell me...

thanks..

well depends on what you want to do. read up on both and go with what works best for you. i prefer EI.

pnk is the normal ones. MG is not normally added.

optional is iron.
