questions swordtails and hi-fin lyretail swordtails fighting

I have the following fish in a 60 gallon planted tank:



  • a male swordtails is isnt full red but close
  • a male hi-fin lyretail swordtails red
  • two female hi-fin lyretail swordtails red
  • four female hi-fin lyretail swordtails pineapple
  • two female hi-fin lyretail swordtails tox


my male swordtail keep attacking the two female hi-fin lyretail swordtails red and the male hi-fin lyretail swordtails red none stop...
the other ones he does no attack...

is this normal?
should i just take him out of the tank?

any advice?

they have been together for about 2-3 month, they are all about 2-3 inches if not bigger, finally i have lots of natural plants...
i will remove him temporarily... one of my lyretail looks little hurt...

It could be that the females are pregnant and males tend to hassle them when they are close to giving birth. Most swords are fry eating machines and males don't mind chasing a meal. The other thing could just be the finage attracting him causing fin nipping. I think you did the correct thing and took him out. If he doesn't stop it you need to relocate or rehome.

Thanks for the responses! i removed him for now.

I will post some pictures of the tank later
here are some pics of the fish in question:
the white spots on the female are from the attacks... the male is quick and is not hurt as bad....
