I'm trying to figure out an effective way to let my Rams try to breed in a community tank without snails eventually finding the eggs. The last time they bred I put the little rock slab with the eggs inside a small bowl, about 2 inches wide by 2 inches tall. The slippery glass surface seemed to prevent snails from getting inside, although the eggs still disappeared in a couple days perhaps because they were not getting enough air circulation, or maybe snails got in there without my knowledge..
Are there any good methods I have not thought of to discourage snails from finding the eggs? For example, what about smearing something around the lip of the bowl that would repel snails without harming fish?
