Hey folks. New to this scene so wanted to share my build in progress. Hope it turns out half as nice as some I've seen on here. Basically still in the process of shaping the interior scape and layout using high density foam. Let me know you all think! Any input would be greatly appreciated!uploadfromtaptalk1408363677283.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408363723883.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408363758350.jpg

great start. looking forward to the updates.
Thanks for looking! Unfortunately it's going to be a sloooooow build. With a 2 year old daughter and 7 week old son my projects become pretty drawn out(not a bad thing and wouldn't trade it for the world!) but I did manage to get the plumbing drilled out and installed for the waterfall and the layers of foam all siliconed together this evening. I think it's just a matter of letting the silicone cure and testing the plumbing, then on to covering the foam. Then the real fun begins!!

Update! Got a fist coat of cement on everything! Definitely going to do a touch up coat of mortar but still trying to decide if I want to just tint the cement or try painting everything after....any opinions would be appreciated!uploadfromtaptalk1408932938737.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408932959138.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408932979547.jpg

looking good. don't forget to really thoroughly soak and cure your mortar before filling with substrate, soil, plants etc. I would - at the very least - soak this in water for a few weeks with frequent water changes. if you search around, there are various methods for making sure your mortar is fully cured before adding the rest of your stuff. it will make a big difference down the line.

Thanks for the advice. Now I'm looking for suggestions for easy going plants for the setup? Any help would be appreciated! Definitely will be doing some pothos but other than that I'm not sure?

Philodendron will grow like a weed. I learned the hard way that it slowly secretes a poison that will kill everything once it gets to a certain size. Don't use philodendron no matter what. Lucky bamboo is easy to keep alive and can be dramatic if you think it works with your composition. There are a ton of other plants you can use and I'm sure people here will know what to suggest.

You can introduce pothos early, even while curing. It is nearly indestructible and will start growing whenever you introduce it.
