Jager is pretty solid. All heaters fail at some point. I'm a fan of using a heater that isn't over sized, or two smaller heaters hooked to a controller.

2 Jagers, controlled by a separate controller (Digital Aquatics or Neptune).

About 10 years ago, a fish store supply rep stated that Hydor heaters had the least returns out of the brands he supplied. Ebo Jaeger used to be the gold standard, but at that point quality had declined and he got as many returns of Jaegers as some of the other brands. I don't know how things have changed since then though.

personally I think the best option out there right now for anything up to 75 gallons are Aqueon Pro heaters. They are extremely precise because they use an electronic thermostat not a moving thermostat like the Jagers. Also are entirely breakproof being made of plastic and no glass components. Saying this I still use Jagers in my 135 and 180.

Another vote for Aqueon Pro. Mine has an aluminum outer sheathing. One question though.. Why the need to heat, if your temp stays around 74F? That range may be ideal for most/all of your stock.

I always had good luck with the Ebo Jagers. Never tried the Neo-therms but they do look sleek and sexy.

A possible reason to have a heater would be just to keep tank temperatures stable. windows being left open, HVAC failure, running out of heating fuel, that sort of thing.

Basically more of an insurance thing than a need.
