Hi, looking for ideas for my 46g tank. I like fish with personality. The tank has established plants (fava fern, duckweed, java moss) and fine gravel. I've got two Aquaclear 50 (formerly 200) filters going as well.

Here are some considerations:
1. tap water has a PH of around 6. I don't like messing with PH so am looking for fish that can accommodate that.
2. with a busy life with two small kids, i can't manage an aquarium that needs a lot of finicky care.

Looking forward to your ideas!

Dimensions? Would you trade gravel for sand?

Oh this is easy. Buy 6 full grown oscars and have a blast!!! I'm joking, of course!:)

There's many options for your tank. Explore what sort of tank you desire, a community aquarium, dutch planted, species only, etc.
For a busy life, I would pick hardy fish like new world cichlids with live plants for an underwater eden.
But, that's me! This is your family's tank so anything you like would be great for all!
