A bag of it is so much cheaper than getting plastic bio balls. Will it change the water chemistry?

I wouldn't. What if it isn't pure LR and laced with something dangerous? Like meth.....kidding :hitting:

Well, I'm gonna put in a bucket of water and see if the water params change. I'll also call the company to see if they spray or add anything to it.

Lava rock has been used as bio media for ages. It might break down after years, but so does most media, and it's dirt cheap. Give it a good wash before hand.

Just wash the rocks before using it in aquariums. The rocks are safe, no problems lol!
