My new tank setup is much more heavily planted than my previous setups. I was wondering how people vacuum their tanks during water changes... I don't want to uproot the plants.
I use a long handled thing to stir up the gunk between the plants, and use the python to suck it out. Stay away from the roots, and vac as usual wherever possible...

Agreed. You don't want to be putting your vac in the substrate - 1.) as Zig said, you don't want to damage the roots and 2.) the mulm in the substrate is fertilizer.
I don't vacuum my planted tanks at all. One has FloraMax and the other, ordinary substrate. Very little visible crud settles, but I'm not heavily stocked.
