I did a search on the lace cats (didn't know what they were
), some sites say they grow to 4 inches others day 4 inches. So hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in to help. People on here would say if you can't have the lace cats, to up the groups of Cory cats and cherry barbs.
For another school of fish you can go with black neon tetras, rummy nose tetras (people say that these school tightly), or maybe some harlequin rasboras!
A dwarf gourami is a nice choice for a centerpiece fish. Or if its possible (others need to help it on this) a pearl gourami.
For livebearer fish you can't go wrong with platies (but if getting more than one, its advise to get 2 to 1 ratio, 2 females to 1 male).

Has the tank been cycled? This needs to be done before adding fish, or with just a 3-4 small fish, a lot of testing and patience. Do you have a water parameter test kit?
Neither "nite" are good, but as you may know, nitrite is very toxic to fish and a healthy, established tank will produce nothing but nitrates. Exposure to high nitrates will kill fish over time.
I'd skip the "lace cats" and go with:
5-7 corys
5 barbs
10 neons or preferably cardinals
1 pearl gourami
