Sorry to jump right to business with my first post but very worried about the new tank I'm setting up. Everything's good so far except for the contradicting opinions floating around about pet smart's all things living driftwood. I found 2 really good looking pieces and I either read "it's grape wood don't use it" or "its mopani driftwood it's fine" I boiled it for four hours, got heavy tannins, now I'm soaking it. Please give me some input, is it a waste of time?

They got a "go ahead", are you saying it's ok? My xp at this point is "gonna try" so I'm a little wary. I really want an expert to jump on here and eyeball it and in their best opinion say yeah or nay.

How is the weight of the pieces? I am not familiar with grape wood, but mopani is VERY heavy. From the little research I just did, I would not use grape wood in an aquarium. Some say you may get a "gel" on the wood, others have said that it disintegrates quickly. I use strictly mopani. Hope this helps and good luck.

The reptile stuff is resin based. I would cut a small part off at the bottom/back and see if it looks like real wood. Mopani is extremely heavy, as vanillarum stated...I have several 2 foot pieces that weigh over 50 lbs each.

doesn't really look like any Mopani that I have seen, but hard to tell from pics. Mopani is pretty heavy too.

I'm baking it dry and giving it to my son for his lizard and ordered two Mopani pieces, better safe than sorry right? Thx everybody for the replies. :)
