Set up my 36 gallon a few weeks ago from seeded filter pad from my 20 gallon...have 4 platys...3 added after 1 full week of letting the tank do its thing after seeding & 1 other platy & angel added at week 2....now water is cloudy...did a 20% water change with vacuum of gravel over the weekend and it seems the cloudiness was made a little worse...

Also added an additional hob filter but I turned it off as it made way too much noise.

Levels are all good .... They have been routinely: ammonia 0 - .25(only first 2 days @ .25), nitrite 0, nitrates a bit higher... But about 20 ish.

Feeding lightly every other day. How long will this take to clear? Can I do another water change this weekend?

Can I a different/quieter hob filter or should I wait until this clears up?

Typical bloom on a new tank.....change water as necessary to keep ammonia/nitrite at zero and nitrate less than 20..it will clear up in short time.

Yeah that cloudy water thing seems to be, if not universal, at least extremely common in new tanks.

(actually just posted this agreement to make that stupid "you haven't posted lately" yellow strip go away.)

Micron filter or charcoal can help clean it up if you are impatient. It generally clears up in a few weeks on its own however.

I've had frequent water changes help this out as well (3-4 50% in a week.)
