Ok, I went to the aquarium not to long ago and brought some Flying Fox as I had identified them as SAE's, some of them turned out to be Flying Fox and some still look like SAE's so I took some photos to see if you guys can help me identify them.

Now I am not going to pretend I am an expert so I could be very wrong so if anyone can correct me please let me know.

Please excuse the poor picture quality I used my phone.

Dan, what size tank and how many SAE/FF do you have in there? Dunno about FF, but SAEs get pretty big. I've got 2 in my 55g.

Flying foxes and SAEs both get 6 inches. And yes, your IDs are correct.

The tank they currently occupy is only a 100 litre, but as they grow they are getting transferred into my bigger tanks, the smaller of which is a 55 gallon, i am also giving my old man a couple of them when they get bigger, and between us we have more than enough room for them, the FF grows only an inch or so smaller than the SAE FYI

ok the link you sent "Duckie" was very helpful and seems to indicate I was right, I can only ever see two "whiskers" but even the flying fox's 4 are hard to spot and they're much bigger fish at the moment. The fins are all plain bar the black stripe on the SAE and the stripe doesn't appear smooth at all really ziggy and zaggy, so I am pleased with that.

Pulled out my magnifying glass and the FF has 4 "whiskers" 2 face forwards and 2 thinner ones that are set further back. I can not see this on the SAE's Identified above, but these are a mere inch in length where the FF are like 3 inches. so maybe they are to small to see??? haha, hopefully they only have the two!! Might just put them in my larger tank with BB algae, that should confirm my suspicion as I bet they will attack the crap.
