Hi All,
Can anyone help? For some reason I have had a few of my Molly fish die recently. I have a juwel lido 120 which had about 17 fish in it. Unfortunately in the last 2 weeks I have had 4 molly fish die. They show no sign of white spot or any other diseases. I recently noticed some of my fish hanging around the top of my tank and when I looked into this I was told I should buy an air pump which I have and am currently awaiting for it to be delivered. I have 2 lare plants so didn't think it would be an oxygen problem. I have done a water check and everything has come back fine. Since the fish have died my other fish seem to be hovering around the top of the tank. With only 13 small fish in the tank I would think there would be enough oxygen in the tank for them. Does anyone have any advice?

Your parameters may be fine to you, but can you post the exact readings from a good liquid test kit? Is the kit out of date?

What is the temp of the tank?

Can you adjust the filter output for more surface agitation?

What is the stocking in detail?

What is your normal maintenance routine?

I use a API freshwater master test kit. The expiry date it nov 2011. Ph is about 6.6, Ammonia 0, nitrate 0 and nitrite 0. The temperature of the tank is 27.6 and I do a 24l water change every week.
I can't adjust the filter.
I have 2 neons, 6 adult mollies and 5 baby mollies.

I'd try a new kit....it's 4 yrs old...some of the reagents could be bad from the opening during testing over 4 yrs. Recommend doing a WC now...40-50% minimum.

Sorry ive just noticed I put nov 2011 instead of nov 2017, so the testing kit is still in date.

seems you should see some nitrates before a weekly WC even in that tank and loading...

I was thinking perhaps there isnt enough fish in the tank to produce enough nitrate to show in one week?
