I have a Marineland Magnum 350 canister filter, and it had the media canister, and the micron cartridge. I generally use the media canister with active carbon in it. Would I be able to toss the carbon and put in peat moss instead. With the intentions to lower my pH, or do I NEED that carbon. Reading around, I have noticed people use peat instead of carbon, and wanted to know more about it. Thanks DAN

I'm not familiar with your filter, but I do know on most cannister filters you can have a layer of peat moss. By itself it should slightly lower your ph and turn your water into a tea like hue much like driftwood does. If you can have peat moss and carbon at the same time the staining of your water should be minimized. You should note however if your Kh is high you probably won't see a change in ph.
