Weird living things growing on my glass

Yesterday evening i found a small patch (about 1 1/2 inches diameter) of strange small living things on the front glass of one of my tanks.

The creatures are probably less than one millimetre long each but you can see them moving. They are white.

Any ideas what these are? Are they harmful?

probably right, its usually because the water quality is going bad. do more water changes or maybe your filters need upgrading.
