I have a 55-gallon tank with 2 4" silver dollars and 1 7" Texas cichlid, 1 5" Synodontis catfish and 1 4" pimodella catfish and I have question about lighting. I keep the lights off during the day when I am at work and when I come home I turn the light on for evening viewing. Lately the fish get real shy when I turn the lights on - the Texas will go under the rock cave to hide. If turn the lights back off, the fish will become real active again. Is there a special light bulb that will illuminate the tank but at the same time not bother the fish - Actinic white or super Actinic or 50/50?

Thanks!

actinics will seem just as bright to the fish.

try putting in floating plants or put some paper or something in bewteen the lights and the water.
