Red Dat.

LFS told me that they got a red dat in and I should come check it out.
One look and I knew... it was a mangrove jack also called a Mangrove red snapper.
It was about an inch long.

Grows to a length of 150cm or almost 60" (5').

In nature, or public aquarium. They live up to 18 - 20 years.

I agree with you, but there are always public aquariums that are looking for fish. If I were to take this fish I would probably donate it to the shed aquarium when it gets too big or even let it go to its natural environment, Gulf of Mexico along the Florida coast.

Yes, I agree.
I know Shedd isn't looking for hand-outs (as in fish) because it cost to keep them.
I live right across the lake from Chicago.
I always do my homework (research) before I do anything.
Well, I am also finding out that the Mangrove Snapper that is native to the US is different Lutjanus griseus, Grey snapper also called the Mangrove Snapper and the Lutjanus cyanopterus
Cubera snapper are all very similar.
