My hippo tang appears to have a brown substance extending about 2-3 mm from the bottom of his eye towards his mouth? Most of my cleanup crew was eaten and I have a bit of a brown algae problem. Could this brown substance be algae on the fish or is does he have some weird marine disease? His behavior is normal and he appears to in otherwise general health.

It appears to be something on the skin. Its a brownish color. The anamoly appears to be smooth and without any bumps or imperfections in texture. Very strange. If I can I will try to take a picture.

Hmmm...A pic will help. I can't think of anything that wouldbe brownish--diatom algae that collects on surfaces won't collect on fish, and most bacterial growths are white, cottony in appearance.
