I'm hesitant to use my standart heat/salt (up to 1 TBsp/gal) method in my quarantine for a pair of Rams I purchased. Is it the long term salt that is detrimental or will short term (a week or so) kill them? The water in question is KH 6, GH 10. Thanks!

I dont think having salt in them with a week will do them much harm, although I have never done it myself. Personally I would lower the dose a bit, maybe 1 tablespoon for 5 gallons. Keep an eye on them if you add the salt, be ready to do a water change if they show signs of stress. I have used salt (usually 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons) on many species of "salt sensitive" fish, and IME it has never done them any harm.
