what is the formula for guessing CO2?

I've seen the tables and charts for correlating ph to kh to get co2 load, but what is the underlying forumla? I'm working on puttign together a nice, tasty spreadsheet to track my levels...

Here is a good chart to follow. I don't know of the forumula behind it. Also note that this chart does not work if you use peat moss or any so-called "acid buffer" because it effects the pH without CO2. Otherwise, CO2 tends to be the dominating acidifier.
