I know I have chloramine in my tap water and I use Prime to eliminate it. However, I was wondering if anyone knows whether Prime converts the NH3 part of chloramine into something usable for plants (like nitrate)?
Prime breaks the chlorine-ammonia bond, neutralizes the chlorine, and neuralizes the ammonia by locking it into the harmless ammonium ion form - which can be used either by the filter bacteria or the plants. But the concentration is so low that you should not count on it for providing any significant nitrogen to the plants.
