According to Gina Sanford, in the Aquarium Owner's Guide, there are no known treatments for dropsy, though improving or correcting tank conditions/diet may help. However, if it is dropsy due to organ failure(s), the fish will not be treatable. Sorry.

Hi Strider, dropsy is a symptom of a bigger problem. There are many things that can cause it, poor water quality, parasites, bacteria or a combination of them all. Once a fish shows that they have dropsy it is almost too late to do anything. I have had only 1 fish with dropsy and it was fatal, luckily it was a new fish that I had picked up and was in quarantine. I wish I had read this web page that has a treatment for dropsy before I lost this really cool looking chocolate oranda :(.

Here is a link that has a treatment for it, hopefully this can help http://users.megapathdsl.net/~solo/puregold/disease/dropsy.html

Wish you luck
