Since Wyoming doesn't have any professional sports teams, we end up hearing about (and I suppose many people are fans of) professional teams in other states.

It's no secret that I'm not a football fan.

But when I'm reading the paper and they interview someone who managed to get some of the tickets to the upcoming playoff games in Denver and was PROUD that he bought 6 tickets to the game instead of new shoes for his kids...I get the feeling that I'm missing something relevant. What on earth would induce someone to spend money on something like a football game instead of providing for their children? One of the other 'lucky' purchasers was unemployed! Unless these people are selling the tickets on Ebay (which they may be are, though I doubt all of them are, and of course jacking someone else over on the price doesn't really speak of better morals!), what the heck are their priorities?

Or am I missing something, and 2-4 hours in a crowded, noisy stadium with a bunch of drunks is really a life changing event that worth any sacrifice?

Now, OG, I know you're not naive enough to believe that most people have their priorities straight. While many of us, even those who really like football, are wise enough to realize that things like football tickets are a luxury, there are many more who do things like leave babies in cars while they gamble at an Indian casino or drink in a bar hugging a Keno machine.

FWIW, I really do like going to football games. Its one of the few sports that I think you can follow just as well in person as on tv. Its exhilerating too. It is not, however, worth my son going without anything for.

You're not missing a THING, OG.

As far as I'm concerned, all a person has to do to witness the degradation of humanity is to attend a professional sporting event. 90% of the people there are wasted out of their minds and doing everything in their power to make themselves look like complete morons.

I've yet to attend a sporting event and not catch a whiff of marijuana while I'm there. These are supposed to be "family" events. You need weed to enjoy a HOCKEY game??

You've got that guy that just SCREAMS at the top of his lungs the entire time, whether the game is going his way or not. He annoys every single person around him, but he doesn't care because, by-golly, he paid for his seat and he's going to do what he wants! No matter how much he ruins it for everyone around him.

You've got that tart who's barely got any clothes on and NEEDS to bounce up and down the stands 43 times to make sure everyone sees her. (Though the guys may pay extra for this perk)

We have friends right now who are looking for Bronco tickets at any cost. ANY COST! Um, why not put that $3,000 in your kids college fund, stay home on your warm, cushy sofa and order in pizza? What is SO GREAT about sitting packed in like sardines on a cold, hard stadium seat surrounded by mind numbing morons and deafening noise? I sure wouldn't pay for that!

I know, those 10% are such jerks for not having any team spirit

Oh yes... That's right, you need to be obliterated to show your TEAM SPIRIT!! Like those, uh, "fans" who stand in sub-zero temperatures with their shirts off and letters written on their chests?? Let me tell you, THAT shows some SPIRIT!! Shows some real brains, too!! I've so often wished I were the ER doctor that got to treat their frostbitten nipples.... :D

And no, Debs and I are far too secure in ourselves to worry about making sure 1000 total strangers see how cute we are.... We KNOW how cute we are!!

wow, sports pretty rugh in amerika huh?
you should come and see a rivalry game of football (soccer) here in england, almost havn't ever smelt drugs, but wow the shouting/screaming, aggresive, yobbish, thugish and mindless anger. but despite all that it's absolutly brilliant (although i would still buy shoes first).
