sponge filter better than power filter?

1st of all i have to re registered again, for some reason my account got screwed up. anyways here we go, going around lots of website i notice that people are talking about using a sponge filter instead of power filter for breeding tank, whats the good thing about using a sponge filter? what dose
it do to make the water better that a power filter can't or can't do better ?

sponge filter is less likely to suck the babies, and it hardly creates current

Yeah, I agree with Misopeenut, also, if the sponge filter is mature it may also provide some microscopic food stuffs for the fry to feed on as the filter media is exposed. But I think it's mainly that it doesn't suck up the babie or make too much current
