It's a FW fish so doesn't really count here but I had a Raffi Catfisfh for eight years before I gave him (and many others) away with his 100 gallon tank. As far as I know, he's still doing well...
The last time we asked this question, the reigning champ was a 9 year old maroon clownfish. FWIW, many larger fish, like tangs, angels, puffers, triggers, etc, have lifespans that range from 15-30 years in the wild.
i'm not doing so well then...................
had my tank running for at least two yrs now.
Started with a 45g tall and had that running for about a yr and a half. about a yr into it....SPIKE.....killed everything in a matter of two days. I admit I was "cartoonishly overstocked" too. Kept the tank empty for about a month with just rock. Waited untill water was good and entered 3 damsels and a leaflip soapfish. A month after that....moved.....what a pain in the arse. Went bigger.
Got a 55 long(found out LFS has 75g tank, stand and hood $250. got me thinking again) and transfered everything and only lost a damsel.
Now you know my story.
Leaflip soapfish....living for almost a yr.
my only great accomplishment.....
yes, i'm new....but i'm used too just going to the beach and seeing these fish. Now i have to put them in a tank.
thanks again
