I have a cycled 45 gal. tank with hang-on skimmer, power-filter, 2 power heads and an undergravel filter. Tank is running well and I do frequent water changes. Current lighting is adequate for fish-only. I don't plan on changing filtration, but I would like to make my own base rock and buy some nice live rock to complement my base rock and decorative (skeleton) corals.

My plan is to gradually gain experience with a reef-type setup and keep it simple to start. Has anyone made a running change like this?

I would appreciate recommendations on lighting, especially. I am considering a Coral life power-compact for about $200.

Alternative project is to invest in a 22 gal. nano for approx. $700.

Thanks in advance.

That's what I did with my 29g, I started with intentions of fish only, but ended up adding a few mushrooms...

... And the reefkeeping "bug" got me.
