I have a Penguin 200 HOB Filter with a Bio-Wheel for my 30 gallon tank. I also have a Top-Fin 40 (200 GPH), but it is currently in the box. Plan on a FOWLR setup.
Is the Penguin sufficient for the cycling process? Does the media have to be removed? Would leaving the media in help it cycle? Should it be removed after it has cycled? What about the Bio-Wheel?
I was thinking about running the Penguin and the Top-Fin at the same time once established, which turns the water over at about 13.8 times per hour. Surely that would be enough water movement.
On to fish. After hours more of research, I have picked out 4 fish I would like that are listed as compatible. I know 3 is probably the max for this tank, so which one should I lose? I definately want the Clown and the Puffer. If anyone has had bad experiences with any of these, or this combination, please let me know.
False Ocellaris Clown - Amphiprion ocellaris
Saddle Valentini Puffer - Canthigaster valentini
Canary Fang Blenny - Meiacanthus ovalaunensis
Flame Cardinal - Apogon pseudomaculatus
