I am considering using T5's on my next project and I was looking around diyreef.com and saw thier URI T5 bulbs indicating they will run on either a standard HO ballast for 54W or with an icecap ballast 85W. After inquiring I was told that an Icecap 660 would run 4 of these bulbs at 85W each.

I was wondering if anyone has done this? (or ODNO on any T5 for that matter).

If I really can get 85W out a t5, combined with good individula parabolic reflectors, I might be able to get away with just 4 bulbs instead of 6 and just 1 ballast.

I have an icecap 660 running 4 HO 54w t-5 bulbs, with individual reflectors. (well its not up yet i need to buy one more bulb which i forgot to order. (doh)
Icecap ballasts do overdrive the bulbs a good bit. I think you should be good, but i'd get a second opinion. Mine are gonna be for a reef tank, and thier enough light for a fairly demanding reef (maybe some SPS near the very top)

Thanks for the info. You didnt happen to do a side by side comparison with the icecap powered T5's versus a standard HO T5 did you?

I have also seen certain T5 bulbs that say they are the only ones proven to be stable at 85W with an icecap ballast. http://diyreef.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=59&products_id=426 I was wondering what truth this has to it or can any HO T5 be overdriven with an ICecap ballast?
