i read somewhere before that rotifers do better without areation, i found that its true, i disconnect the air pump from my 15 gallon green water drum, and after 3 days you can actually see the rotifers on the surface of the water like white dust moving around, and when i deep my 53 micron zooplankton collector in it, i scoop a huge ammount of culture, this never happen when i use to have areation going. its been a week now and the culture just keeps getting larger, hope this will serve as an answer for some people who try to get thier rotifers going.
and yes Freshwater Rotifers don't need light, they even reproduce faster in dark place, ive tested this in a small jar with rotifers hidden under my sink, i just feed them Roti-Rich diet that you can purchase from Florida Aqua Farms
