I have 1 adult Parrot fish and a Jack Dempsey. The Jack on occasions shakes his head and the 9 in Parrot will swim around fine then out of no where dart about a foot and become lethargic for 20 minutes.Anybody ever see this. PS> no visible signs on the fish and water CKS OK.

Tank is a wide 50.ammonia0,PH7.0,Nitrites0,Nitrates60.Theres driftwood in the tank and water changes are once a week at 20 percent. This set up is about 4yrs old and holds one 6 year old 9in Parrot and one 1 year old 7in Jack. Both fish get along fine and there fed once a day with a mixture of dry food never being over fed.

Do some major water changes and get those nitrates down, vacuum the gravel thoroughly. Clean/change your filter material - in dechlorinated water. See what liv2 says, but I'm wondering about gill flukes... lack of substantive water changes can quickly lead to an over population of these parasites.

Sounds like something is bothering the fish.
