Ignore the scratches on the glass (yard sale tank), here's a few pics of some Australoheros that look to be approaching spawning size. One definite pair has formed, taken over the sunken ship ornament in the middle of the tank, and keeps the other 5 at either end of the 30 long.

A great looking fish!

the scratches are okay any tank that holds water is a good tank

nice looking fish

Nice fish. We have four of the dwarf oblongatums (or whatever it is).

As far as I can tell (from looking at pics) these are A. facetus, though they were sold to me as A. oblongum. From what I've seen the oblongum don't have the red color in the fins or the metallic blue spangles peppered on the body. Apparently they've got quite a bit more growing to do, these aren't even half of the 20cm listed as their max size. They don't seem to be as aggressive as the accounts I've read either, but they are still young. Not so much as a split fin among the group so far, and they ignore the juvie L333 and BN pleco's aharing the 30 long.

ok i swear ive posted here before....... any way awesome fish good luck breeding!

Whoo Hoo, there's a swarm of wigglers hanging in the Najas while mom and pop stand guard. I cleaned the tank a couple days ago and moved out a female with a badly chewed up tail. The pair have shown a recent increase in territorial behavior, basically claiming nearly the entire 30 long and keeping the other chanchitos "locked down" out of sight. They still don't seem to be too concerned about the pleco's though. Since it's their first spawn I figure it's just as well to leave things the way they are and see what happens. If the fry survive to become free-swimmers I'll consider moving either the other cichlids or the fry.
Anyone interested in the other 3m/2f?

Here's some pics of the wee ones (center, top) and the fierce pair:
