I have hear that food source plays a big role as well. If they run out of algae to eat they will turn to corals and fish.
 
I haven't seen him do anything towards the jawfish but I still worried about it a bit. I fed the crab a chunk of fish meat twice a week. Not sure if that helped. Anyway I don't plan on getting another. Instead I'm going to get a white porcelain crab. I never got one before because I was afraid the emerald would kill it.
 
Bummer about the losses, awesome tank though!
