First Planted Tank Attempt

I gave right at $200 for my 200 gallon Oceanic. I love a 7ft long tank. Lol. So I to have kept pretty well in the spirit of $1 per gallon. Of course I dont normally go buy brand new tanks. I like to find deals though.

ugh, ya'll make me feel bad. I LOVE new hardware...and really hate other people's messes/failures, so I wind up buy everything new for about a bajillion $ per gallon and then screw up all the brand new shiny parts for myself :D

Fozzy, I USED to love all new hardware. But for Tanks and stands...... I look for the best shape and the best deals used. Then I normally Load it up with brand new everything else. Lights, Heater, Substrate, filtration... and so on. The clean up process on some used tanks can be rough. But you end up with some tanks that look like new when your done same with stands.

Yeah, I've got one used tank actually and its sitting right next to another brand new tank and you can really hardly tell the difference. I think though that the algae in the older tank has scarred the glass to a certain degree, it always wants to grow back in these little spots that are almost impossible to get clean. And building stands is way too much fun for me to buy one of those lol

Fozzy I normally soak any tank u get in a bleach and water mix filled to the rim for 3 or 4 days. Then I polish any stain spots. Rinse let air dry fro.a few days and never any algae issued. Bleach kills it all .

naw yeah I did that, and I've figured out that glass stove top cleaner is actually great at getting water spots etc off...I'm pretty sure that the glass (for whatever reason I really don't know I just guess it may be algae) is actually scarred on the inside, like pock marked with dimples that algae likes to grow in, then you have to scrub like an angry demon to get it of during maintenance, its really hard to see, but it annoys me a wee. It could also be acid etching...idk what they were doing with this thing before i found it lol.
