Help! Pet shop lied to us.

Think we have a version of Craigslist over here. Thanks again guys. Will let you know how we get on and be straight back on to you before I stock the big tank!

I would recommend a few (4-6) White Cloud Mountain Minnows and a small catfish. Keep it simple. You wont really need a heater as the tanks temp will reflect the ambient temperature of the room it is in.

WCMMs are very active swimmers and easy to care for. I am sure he would enjoy watching them chase each other around the tank. I would stay away from Mollies, Platties, Swordtails and the like as they will quickly over populate the tank.

I was a smoker for 20 yrs and then started chewing. I have been completely tobacco free now for 18 months.

White Clouds are minnows, the advantage with them is that you don't need a heater.

Let's talk about your filter. Is it air-pump driven? Power filters are better, but Betta's don't like a lot of current, so If you go the betta route air pump type is OK. Once we know what type of filter you have we can make a better recommendation in regards to how many fish you can keep.

Please remember never to change all of the filter media at once, your cycle will start all over again.

Also bear in mind in an aquarium that small you'll run into 2 major limitations-

a) type, number and size of fish you can keep, different fish produce different amounts of waste.

b) type of fish you can keep in regards to the way they swim...darting, quick fish won't work because there's not enough room for them to swim before they need to turn around.

Good luck & don't hesitate to ask questions!

I quit by using electronic cigs. Took a day

I have an ASD son as well. Seems its his dad though that has the fish tank problem~:grinno:

Your tank size will be the major limiting issue, but you know that, so there isn't any reason to beat that horse anymore.

I would start with a betta. Its not a perfect set up, but its not the end of the world either. It is what it is, and you are now educated on the needs of tank maintenance. Keep track of water parameters and things should be okay.

Not knowing where you son is on the spectrum, I've found with my son, that it is in the building of a new tank that he gets alot of enjoyment. Admittedly, his ASD is not as severe as some kids and his socialization is improving, but he really enjoys the "science" behind the tank. "why do we wait to put fish in" "what do we need to make sure the fish stay healthy" "how do we plan to do those things". extending that out, we let him talk to the "fish guys" at the store, explain what we need to get for the next step in the plan, let him engage with people other than family.

Again, you know as well as I that there is no one path for ASD and what can be productive for some isn't scratching the itch for others. Best of luck, and if you want to talk, the PM is open.

hey dude why not keep shrimps in there after all you are close to germany the shrimp capital of the world after taiwan that is

Oh jeez, I didn't even notice the tank size was in liters.

That definitely would limit your options, I'm afraid. Shrimp is an excellent suggestion (I would hesitate to put any type of fish in that small of a volume) but if you want fish then you should think about getting something in the 5-10 gallon range at the very minimum.
